What is included in a professional deep cleaning service?
A proper deep clean covers every room from the ceiling to the floor in one visit: high dust and cobwebs, fans and lights, doors and windows, furniture, the outside of appliances, kitchen grease, bathroom hard-water marks and balconies, and it finishes with machine-scrubbed floors. It usually does not include the inside of appliances, moving heavy furniture, or marks that cleaning cannot remove, such as rust or damaged tiles.
"Deep cleaning" sounds clear until two companies quote for it and you realise they mean different things. One includes the inside of kitchen cabinets, the other does not. One scrubs floors with a machine, the other only mops. This guide lays out what a full deep clean should cover, room by room, so you can judge any quote, including ours.
Why the order of work matters
A good team always works top to bottom. Dust from fan blades, cupboard tops and ceiling corners falls as it is cleaned, so high areas go first and floors go last. If you ever see a team mopping before the fans are done, the floor will need doing again. In our process the floors are always the final step, so nothing lands on them afterwards.
Room-by-room checklist
Every room
- Ceiling corners brushed and cobwebs removed
- Fan blades, light fittings and switchboards wiped
- Doors, frames and handles cleaned on both sides
- Window glass and frames, as far as can be reached safely
Living room and bedrooms
- Wooden furniture dusted, including tops of wardrobes
- Sofas, mattresses and carpets vacuumed
- Spot cleaning of fabric and cushions where marks allow
- Light chairs and side tables shifted to clean under them
Kitchen
The kitchen usually takes the most time in any home, because cooking oil settles on every surface near the stove and turns sticky.
- Grease removed from the wall tiles, especially behind the stove
- Every cabinet shutter, handle and drawer face degreased
- Inside of cabinets and drawers, when they have been emptied
- Chimney, hob and exhaust fan cleaned from outside
- Sink, taps and platform
Bathrooms
In much of south Bangalore the water is hard, so white, chalky deposits build up on tiles, glass and taps. Removing them is the main job in most bathrooms we see.
- Hard-water marks removed from wall tiles and shower glass
- Taps and shower heads descaled
- Mirror, washbasin and other fittings
- Toilet bowl, seat and outer surfaces
- Floor scrubbed with a machine
Appliances
The fridge, washing machine, microwave, oven and water purifier are wiped on the outside. Cleaning inside them needs them emptied and, often, opened up, which is a separate job.
Balconies and utility area
- Railings and grills wiped
- Floor scrubbed
- Utility sink and tiles
Floors, last of all
Every floor in the home is scrubbed with a machine and then wet-mopped. A machine lifts the grey film from tile and granite that a mop alone leaves behind.
Extra areas for some homes
- Independent houses: staircase and common passage, sit-out, terrace and outside cobwebs, plus the gate and compound if you want them.
- Empty homes: wardrobes and cupboards inside and out, lofts and the sliding tracks under windows. See unfurnished home deep cleaning.
- After painting or new interiors: builders' plastic film, adhesive from stickers, paint specks and cement spots, removed before the main clean.
What a deep clean usually does not include
Knowing the limits up front avoids disappointment on the day. These are outside a standard deep clean, with us and with most companies:
- Inside the fridge, oven, microwave and similar appliances
- Dismantling the chimney or servicing its motor and filters
- Moving beds, wardrobes and other heavy furniture
- Outside window glass that cannot be reached safely from inside
- Marks cleaning cannot lift: rust, etched or scratched surfaces, and tiles worn by long-term hard water
From our team: a good cleaner tells you before starting if a mark will not come off, not after. If a company promises that "everything will look new", ask what they do about rust and etched glass. An honest answer is a good sign.
Deep cleaning compared with a regular clean
Regular cleaning keeps a home tidy day to day: sweeping, mopping, dusting what you can see. A deep clean resets the things daily cleaning never reaches. We explain how to choose between them in deep cleaning vs regular house cleaning.
How to prepare for the team
- Lock away cash, jewellery and important papers
- Empty the kitchen cabinets you want cleaned inside
- Make sure water and electricity are on, which matters most in new flats
- Stay in for the first few minutes to walk the team through, and again at the finish for the check
A checklist for the final walk-through
Take ten minutes to look over the work with the team before they leave. These are the spots that show quickly whether a deep clean was thorough:
- Run a finger along the top edge of a fan blade
- Look at the tiles directly behind the stove
- Check the base of the taps and the shower head for white crust
- Look at switchboards and door handles in two or three rooms
- Check the floor along the skirting and in corners
- Open one or two emptied kitchen cabinets
If something was missed, point it out then. If you notice it after the team leaves, call us the same day; someone comes back the next day to redo that spot without charge.
